SUSTAINABILITY

Growing with tomorrow in mind

For us, sustainability starts at origin

It begins with how fruit is grown and extends across our farms, grower partnerships, facilities, people, packaging and supply chain.

Our approach is practical: understand where we can make a difference, work together with our partners and keep improving the way we grow, handle and deliver tropical fruit.

OUR FOCUS AREAS

Responsible choices. From origin onwards

Agriculture depends on natural resources, people and healthy growing regions. Protecting these foundations is essential to building a resilient supply chain for the future.

Our sustainability efforts focus on areas where our operations and partnerships can make a meaningful difference.

WATER

Every drop matters

Water is essential to everything we grow. Using it responsibly starts with understanding where it comes from and how it is managed.

Climate change and increasing demand are putting greater pressure on water availability in agricultural regions around the world.

Together with our growers and supply chain partners, we work to continuously improve water management and irrigation practices across our origins.

Since 2022, our grower certification requirements have included the GLOBALG.A.P. SPRING programme, strengthening our approach to responsible water management at farm level.

Our approach includes:

  • Water management and watershed planning
  • Water-risk assessments at farms and produce-handling facilities
  • Planning and monitoring of water use and irrigation
  • Rainwater recovery and storage where applicable
  • Identification and protection of water sources
  • Training, objectives and continuous improvement

Better water management starts at the field.

FOOD WASTE

Making more of every fruit

Not every fruit is suitable for the fresh market. That does not mean its value should be lost.

Fruit can fall outside fresh-export specifications for reasons such as size, shape or external appearance while still being suitable for processing.

Where possible, we redirect suitable fruit into our frozen programmes. It can be peeled, cut and processed into formats such as chunks, dices or smoothie pieces for retail, foodservice and industrial applications.

By connecting our fresh and frozen capabilities, we can create additional opportunities to use more of the fruit we grow and source.

This helps us reduce food waste, make better use of the harvest and create additional value at origin.

PACKAGING

Protecting the product. Reducing what we use

Good packaging should protect the fruit without using more material than necessary.

We work to use recyclable or reusable packaging wherever practical and reduce unnecessary plastic across our operations.

At the same time, packaging has an important role in protecting fresh produce and extending shelf life. Reducing packaging only makes sense when it does not result in greater product loss further down the supply chain.

Our approach is therefore focused on finding the right balance: protect the product, minimise unnecessary material and keep improving the packaging solutions we use.

PEOPLE & COMMUNITIES

Growing together

Tropical fruit is a people business.

Our operations depend on the knowledge, commitment and experience of the people working across our farms, facilities and grower network.

We believe responsible growth means looking beyond the product itself — supporting safe working environments, building long-term relationships with growers and creating value in the communities connected to our operations.

With teams and partners across different origins, we aim to build relationships that can grow with us for the long term.

A LONGER VIEW

Better partnerships. A longer view

Sustainability is not a single project or destination. It is part of how we make decisions about our farms, facilities, products and partnerships.

By staying close to origin and working together across the supply chain, we aim to keep improving how tropical fruit is grown, handled and brought to market.
